Geography: Butte is located on the western edge of the Continental Divide, in the heart of a huge granite formation called the Boulder Batholith that stretches from south of Helena to north of Dillon.  The Anaconda-Pintler Range is about 20 miles to the west.  The Clark Fork River is west of town. The Madison, Missouri, and Big Hole Rivers are relatively close by and have excellent trout fishing.  The Highland Mountains form a backdrop against the City of Butte and provide excellent habitat for Montana big game species.

Transportation: Butte sits on the continental divide where I-90 and I-15 intersect.  Flights are available to and from the Bert Mooney Airport.

Weather:  Average high temperature in the summer ranges from 70° in June, 80° in July, and 78° in August, with average lows in the mid 40s. June usually has the most rainfall with an average of 2.2 inches. The average high temperature in the winter ranges from 31° in December, 30° in January, and 34° in February, with average lows in the single digits. The average snowfall per month from November through January is about 7 inches.
