Geography: Big Sky is completely surrounded by the Gallatin National Forest; bounded on the east by the Gallatin Mountain Range, and on the west by the Madison Mountain Range.  The Gallatin River follows Hwy 191 from Yellowstone National Park ending at the beginning of the Missouri River. 

Transportation: Big Sky is located midway between Bozeman and West Yellowstone just off Hwy 191 on Hwy 64.  The closest airport is  Gallatin Field Regional Airport just out of Bozeman.  Thirty miles south of Big Sky is the west entrance gate to Yellowstone National Park.

Weather: Average high temperature in the summer ranges from 69° in June, 78° in July, and 78° in August, with average lows in the low 40s.  May and June usually have the most rainfall with an average of 2.8 inches. The average high temperature in the winter ranges from 30° in December, 31° in January, and 35° in February, with average lows in the single digits. The average snowfall in December and January is 30 inches.
