Geography: The Beartooth Mountains are the backdrop for Red Lodge. Rock Creek flows through town; the Yellowstone River is a short drive away. Yellowstone National Park is approximately 65 miles southwest.

The average high temperature in the winter ranges from 35° in December, 33° in January, and 35° in February, with average lows in the low teens.  The average snowfall in December and January is 14.3 inches.
