Geography: Harlowton is nestled among four mountain ranges in the Musselshell Valley.  The Big and Little Snowy Mountains are to the north, the Little Belt Mountains are to the northwest, the Castle Mountains are to the west, and the Crazy Mountains to the southwest.  The Musselshell River follows US highway 12.

Transportation: Located at the intersection of US highway 12, US highway 191, and MT highway 3.  Harlowton is 44 miles north of Big Timber, and 93 miles northeast of Billings.  Billings Logan International Airport is approximately 100 miles southeast, Gallatin Field Airport in Bozeman is approximately 103 miles southwest, and Great Falls International Airport is about 128 miles northwest.

Weather:  Average high temperature in the summer ranges from 74° in June, 83° in July, and 83° in August, with average lows in the high 40s.  June usually has the most rainfall with an average of 2.84 inches. The average high temperature in the winter ranges from 37° in December, 34° in January, and 40° in February, with average lows in the mid teens.  The average snowfall in December and January is 6.5 inches.
