Geography: Shelby is located in northern Montana. The terrain is primarily grasslands.  The Sweet Grass Hills are north of Shelby near the Canadian Border. The Marias River is south of town, flowing into Lake Elwell / Tiber Reservoir.

Transportation: Shelby is located on Highway 2, just off the intersection with Interstate 15. Shelby is  approximately 30 miles from Canadian Border, 80 miles east of Glacier Park.  Great Falls International Airport is approximately 80 miles south along I-15.

Weather:  Average high temperature in the summer ranges from 73° in June, 84° in July, and 83° in August, with average lows in the high 40s to low 50s.  June usually has the most rainfall with an average of 3.24 inches. The average high temperature in the winter ranges from 35° in December, 29° in January, and 39° in February, with average lows in the single digits to low teens.  The average snowfall in December and January is 4 inches.
